The Open Space Task Force is a group of over 80 landscape architects, park advocates, and residents who are interested in open space.  The next meeting of the Mayor’s Open Space Task Force will be held on Thursday, November 13th at the Bayside Conference Room at Pier 1, from 3-5pm.The guest speaker will be Gil Peñalosa, the key leader of the Ciclovía movement in Bogota, Colombia. Today, he travels to cities around the world, helping them to understand how to make streets work for people. He makes clear the critical connections between how we create and use our streets and the vitality, health and sustainability of a city's people and economy. Mr. Peñalosa, working with his brother, former Mayor Enrique Peñalosa, was instrumental in the Bogota miracle to reclaim the city for people by building hundreds of kilometers of bike paths, widening sidewalks, and rejuvenating the City's transit and parks systems after the World Bank threatened to build elevated highways throughout his city to fix the city's traffic congestion. At this meeting, the Task Force will be asked to provide feedback on the draft Vision and Action Plan.  The group will also comment on the update of the Recreation and Open Space Element (ROSE) of the General Plan.  The public is welcome to attend and comment on these new concepts to be presented at the meeting.  Please contact council@sfnpc.org if you would like more information or to RSVP.
