About the Mayor's Open Space Task Force

The Mayor's Open Space Task Force is an integral part of the Open Space 2100 initiative. The Task Force includes bi-monthly meetings of a larger Task Force. This Task Force is made up of guests of the Mayor (Gavin Newsom), public officials, non-profits, foundations, design firms, and the general public. The Task Force also includes smaller workgroups (Finance, Planning and Programming, and Policy and Implementation). These workgroups meet in the interim of the larger Task Force meetings in order to compile Task Force outcomes and flesh out details.
Open Space Task Force meetings generally include presentations on open space triumphs, failures, and opportunities both here in San Francisco and in other comparable cities throughout the world.
These presentations are followed by breakout sessions. Smaller groups are formed and each is given a specific task. Tasks have included theorizing resolutions to perceived and real barriers to open space access, connecting large open spaces (as seen in the photo to the right), and brainstorming financing strategies for open space acquisition and maintenance.
Meetings end with closing statements on findings from each breakout group. For digital copies of meeting outcomes, see: Agendas, Minutes, and Presentations.
